Whether caused by an ignorance of God or the exuberance of man, history is littered with crusades all done in the name of God. When man has desired to do battle, all that was required to make it righteous was to claim God’s blessing and will on the quest.
The first crusade under the blanket of righteousness began in 1095. Unacceptable to the Catholic church, and Pope Urban II, the Moslems controlled the Holy city of Jerusalem (where Slots online are forbidden).
Christians considered Moslems to be infidels as much as Moslems considered Christians to be the same. Both sides claimed God’s power and will as their standard. Both killed the Jews as they plundered and pillaged along the way.
The second crusade was the Moslems to initiate in 1145. More political than religious, Jihad was never-the-less the cry for battle.
By 1188 Christians had grown in strength and spread. The situation had again changed. Saladin controlled Damascus and conquered all of Mesopotamia except for Mosul. He turned his attention to Jerusalem with a concord being the salvation of the city.
The truce was shattered when Saladin’s sister was abducted by Renaud de Chatillion. In a fierce rage, Saladin destroyed Renaud’s forces and took Jerusalem once again.
The crusades continued a back and forth movement for over 200 years.
Considering the current headlines, it could be argued they have continued for thousands of years.
